Gah, Windows again :(

I’m not a happy person right now…

I came to a startling revealation. Linux is a great operating system and I can see myself using it fulltime in the future but as long as I’m on this antique of a computer and stuck with a awfully small download limit, I’m going to have to stick with Windows. I don’t have enough download allowance per month in order to satisfy the dependencies for compiling software under Linux. I at about 230mb / 400mb download’s used at the moment and I still have over 20 days this month before I get more download allowance.

This really sucks.

Sound in Linux - Fixed!

managed to fix sound in Linux. I no longer have to run the modprobe command at the Command Line in order for sound to work. I created a file with the modprobe snd command in it and did something I found in a tutorial somewhere to make it execute a boot time. That is the good news.

Now, I have two pieces of bad news.

First, I can not get snes9express, game launcher or vba express to compile although I’m closer then ever after I downloaded about a hundred megabytes in packages from the repository’s. Pretty bad for my Download limit which is 400 megabytes. I’m about half way through that already, so only 10megabytes per day for the rest of the month.

My second upset is that both Smallville and Veronica Mars will not be screening today because of the Football (AFL). I hate football. My state Victoria will probably not see today’s missed episodes because they will be showing in the other states. Why does Television get such bad treatment in Australia?

Switch to Linux

I switched to Linux on the Weekend. Ubuntu Linux to be exact although I may change to another distribution. The switch was fueled by me finally managing to purchase an ethernet card as my USB modem was not supported but with the purchase of an ethernet card I was able to connect it successfully. I had a few issues with my printer but this was easily fixed. I did get sound working also after a bit of messing around, the only problem being that I have to install the sound card after each boot up as it seems to not want to stay working. One problem I’m having at the moment is that I’m unable to install an compiler for some reason. Damn apt-get refueses to let me. I don’t want to go back to Windows, so I hope I can resolve the issues.
